ITINERARY

What Your Adventure Will Look Like

Your adventure begins when you meet your Ultimate Adventures guide near Thirlmere, where you’ll get changed into your wetsuit and technical equipment before setting off towards the canyon.

From here, the experience starts with a 30–40 minute walk up to the top of the ghyll. This steady walk-in adds to the sense of adventure and gives you time to take in the surrounding landscape before the descent begins. To keep things running smoothly, you’ll each carry a small piece of group equipment such as ropes or safety gear, adding to the team element of the experience.

Along the way, your guide will introduce you to the specialised canyoning equipment and teach you the key techniques needed for the descent, including how to abseil safely and confidently.

Once at the top, the real adventure begins.

You’ll start your journey down through the canyon, taking an active role in your descent as you abseil down waterfalls under the close supervision of your guide. Throughout the experience, you’ll navigate steep rock features, slide down natural rock slides and move through sections of flowing water shaped by the landscape.

This is a longer and more continuous canyoning experience, with a strong sense of progression as you move deeper into the gorge.

Along the way, you’ll encounter deep plunge pools, sections of fast-flowing water and fully immersive environments that showcase the raw beauty of the Lake District.

One of the standout moments of the trip is reaching the canyon’s iconic infinity pool—a stunning natural feature and the perfect spot to capture an unforgettable photo from your adventure.

After completing the canyon, you’ll finish with a huge sense of achievement, incredible memories and plenty of photos to look back on from your Lake District canyoning experience.

Optional Challenges
